    In this Subject, we will explore the concept of the learning organization and organizational learning processes, as well as how the concept h as been used, debated or challenged. The later part of the Subject will focus on the methods and tools for the realizing of organizational learning, and assessments of its performance with application examples and c ase building exercises.

Subject Outline

The subject is divided into 7 lessons as follows:

  2. Lesson 2: The Process of Organizational Learning
  3. Lesson 3: The Art of Organizational Learning
  4. Lesson 4: System Thinking: Managing Chaos and Complexity
  5. Lesson 5: Scenario Planning, Storytelling, and Sense Making
  6. Lesson 6: Organizational Forgetting and Unlearning
  7. Lesson 7: Building Learning Organization

Subject Coordinator

Prof. W.B. Lee

Chair Professor of Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Director of Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Professor W.B. Lee is the Chair Professor of the Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Director of the Knowledge Management Research Centre, and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Centre. He is currently a council member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and an advisor of the Science Museum of the Recreational and Cultural Department. Professor Lee is the editor of the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Science and the International Journal of Knowledge and Systems Science. He established the Knowledge Solution Laboratory, the first of its kind in Hong Kong and has pioneered research and practice of knowledge management in various organizations which include manufacturing, trading, public utilities, various government departments and health care. Prof. Lee and his team have launched Asia's first on-line MSc. Program in Knowledge Management. His research interest includes manufacturing strategy, knowledge management, organizational learning and intellectual capital based management.

Teaching Assistant: Miss Lora Liu

Miss Lora Liu graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in International Development Studies from the University of Toronto. She also gained a MSc. degree in Knowledge Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Lora has two years’ working experience in banking sector. She is now a MOOC project staff in the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Center of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
